Hagen Renaker Stickers and other Markings

This page is meant to show the wide variety of stickers and markings that Hagen Renaker used. Hopefully it will give you a general guideline of when specific stickers or marks were used. This will help you date when your pieces were made. Also, it is pretty common to find 2 stickers on one piece, or to find the wrong name sticker on a piece. Some people feel stickers are unimportant, but I think they are very important and tell us a lot. Unfortunately, some people will remove a sticker from one piece and put it on another, which causes confusion. Hagen Renaker discontinued all stickers in 2007 in a cost cutting measure.

Many thanks to Nancy Falzone for all her help with this page and my entire website

Hagen Renakers Other Markings

In addition to stickers, some molds have painted, etched, raised, impressed or ink stamped markings. These markings can vary from HR to Copyright Symbols to initials, names or numbers.

Hagen Renaker Painted Markings, Artist Marks and Signatures

The first marks used by Hagen Renaker were hand painted onto the backs of dishes and decorative pieces. Also, artists signed or initialed many pieces, sometimes with paint or by carving them into a piece. I will add a few more pictures periodically, but there are so many variations, I could never picture them all. I would love help in identifying individual artist marks. Some of the limited edition pieces are also signed or numbered

Assorted Hagen Renaker Handpainted HR marks found on dishes

Normally found painted on the back of dishes or shadow boxes
ES and AS are the decorators initials
AS are the initials of decorator Abra Seeman, who also painted for Cleminson Pottery
This is one reason why early HR and Cleminson's resemble each other

Miscellaneous Hagen Renaker Artist Initials

VH was etched into the large Monrovia DW Silver
MB 1/67 is Marie Benzango from January 1967
KD was painted on the Disney Scrooge and on nephew Huey
There are many more decorator initials and marks found on pieces

Hagen Renaker Decorator Signatures

Marie is decorator Marie Benzango
Mary could be a decorator or Mary Renaker

Hagen Renaker San Marcos Gold Number

The large DW Appaloosa QH Mare was numbered in gold

Some of these horses came on bases and are numbered.
Others came with certificates.
The first few Ferseyns were mispelled

Hagen Renaker Test Color Markings

These markings vary greatly, but these pictures should give you a general idea
The 2 numbers represent different color paints and/or a different colored slip
Ocassionaly, you can even find the colors painted right on the piece
Sometimes just one number is used
A single number could mean the colors were tracked on paper, or only one color was used.

Hagen Renaker Pieces Marked with Numbers

Very few Hagen Renakers are lettered or numbered
None have ink stamped numbers, but a few do have an impressed number
H 1569 is the DW Dachshund pup Lenk
683 is for the DW cat Starlite
HR DW 22 is from the the San Marcos 12 1/2 inch Persian Cat Silver

Hagen Renakers Cards

Of course most people are familiar with all the HR minis that came glued on cards. These are the easiest to identify, because the card usually gives you a good idea of when a piece was made, Monrovia or San Dimas, plus many are priced so if the price is low, it's an older piece. I must warn you though. The cards with dates are misleading. The date is when the card was made, not when the piece was made. Hagen Renaker ordered these cards in huge numbers and they lasted 5 years or more. A piece dated 1981 could have been made in 1985. Hagen Renaker also marketed minis as sets in the early 60's and again in 1978. Usually 2 or 3 minis on a card in a plastic box. I love these little sets, plus some of them are quite rare. Cards with sayings also came with Zany Zoo pieces and Little Horribles. The pieces weren't glued to these cars though.
